Derecho Investigations Executive Protection
Executive Protection is also known as Close Personal Protection, Dignitary Protection. Formally, bodyguards would take security measures to ensure the safety of Government Officials, Military Officials, Foreign Diplomats, Business Executives, VIP's and other individuals who may be exposed to elevated personal risk. Factors that may heighten risk for these individuals include their employment, celebrity status, wealth, associations, or geographical location.
Executive Protection is its own highly specialized field within the private security industry and law enforcement agencies. Executive Protection professionals have specialized training in executive protection, advance/logistical operations, motorcade and defensive driving, threat assessments and investigations, counter stalking measures, counter assault measures, first aid, self defense and marksmanship.
Protective Operations and measures may include home security systems, site surveys, advances, motorcade operations/armored vehicles, GPS monitoring, mail screening, private air travel, estate protection, background checks for other employees and vendors as well as other precautions. Executive Protection Agents also provide security for immediate and/or extended family members to prevent kidnapping, extortion, embarrassing situations and medical emergencies.
The term Executive Protection was coined in the 1970's by the United States Secret Service when they created the Executive Protection Service to guard visiting foreign dignitaries. Currently every Federal and State (Governor's Detail) Law Enforcement Agency has an Executive Protection element associated with their department/agency. In addition various local law enforcement, college and university police departments employ Executive Protection/Dignitary Protection Units for local officials, judges, prosecutor's and visiting dignitaries.
